(NASDAQ: EXTR) and the Enterprise Mobility
Solutions business unit of Motorola,
Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced that the companies have established a
relationship to deliver a highly scalable unified network edge combining
wired and wireless LAN (WLAN) networks that underpin mobile data and
converged communications. An OEM agreement enables the companies to
develop, market and support high-performance, secure, resilient and
intelligent WLANs.
Extreme Networks is developing integrated wired and wireless network
solutions with Motorola's technology providing customers with a unified
network that is predictable, fast and features the highest integrity.
Working together and with certified sales and integration partners
globally, the companies will deliver wired and WLAN infrastructure
including WLAN controllers, network management tools and high-performance
wireless access points (APs) that will enable next-generation mobility
applications.
"Wireless is a critical part of the connected enterprise and Motorola's
innovative WLAN solutions, combined with its size and experience delivering
smart connectivity to enterprises, make our relationship an essential one
for customers," said Paul Hooper, vice president and general manager for
the Volume Products Group for Extreme Networks. "The close alignment of
our goals speaks to the broad and exciting vision for high-performance,
Internet-connected data and communications in every business setting."
IEEE's 802.11n standard was recently ratified, allowing for greater speeds,
performance and user density to support high density VoIP sessions,
high-definition video conferences, and the seamless use of faster
connections for business applications at the edge, via a wired or wireless
port.
Motorola's WLAN technology leads the industry with its time-proven
resiliency, gap-free security, pervasive management, remote monitoring and
policy enforcement, which substantially reduce network deployment and
maintenance costs, and ensures the availability of wireless connectivity in
every corner of the enterprise.
"The agreement between Motorola and Extreme Networks provides organizations
with the opportunity to create the wired and wireless network of choice
bringing high-performance connectivity and the benefits of mobility through
our innovative wireless LAN solutions," said Bob Sanders, vice president
and general manager for Wireless Network Solutions, Motorola Enterprise
Mobility Solutions.
"Motorola has a legacy of delivering innovative mobility solutions
providing businesses with tremendous flexibility in architecting their
networks," said Sujai Hajela, vice president and general manager for
Enterprise WLAN, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions. "By teaming with
Extreme Networks we see a strong opportunity to deliver wired-wireless
converged edge solutions that can help customers achieve a mobile edge."
With the relationship, Extreme Networks today launches its new
portfolio of wireless LAN solutions based on Motorola's Enterprise
Wireless LAN solutions that are available this quarter. The new Summit®
WM3000 family of scalable WLAN controllers features integrated security and
supports mobility applications, providing customers with WLAN solutions for
their differing stages of growth.
Extreme Networks complete portfolio of resilient WLAN components includes
802.11n APs that offer reliable wireless coverage and high capacity for
demanding applications and communications. Additionally, Extreme Networks
Wireless Management Suite simplifies management of wireless network and
services for network administrators.
Extreme Networks and Motorola are also working together on a unified wired
and wireless LAN solution that integrates Motorola's WLAN-controller
function with Extreme Networks award-wining portfolio of Ethernet LAN
switches. In addition to accelerating network performance with the
adoption of 802.11n, Extreme Networks WLAN solutions enable common security
and management policies across both wired and wireless LANs in the
enterprise.
